Six up today for each of the teams, giant wing, big foils.
Read more about the Women Pathway Program and the sailors who will be joining their teams for the first time today here.
Race 1
Looks like the RHS of the course is favoured.
New Zealand are early, Japan and Australia nail the start!
Slingsby AUS, Ainslie GBR and Outteridge JPN are first around mark 1.
Round the bottom, AUS, GBR, JPN, USA, NZL, FRA, NZL, DEN, ESP.
JK at the bottom does not work for Japan.
Top mark; Australia GBR, USA, JPN, FRA, NZL, DEN, ESP.
Shortened course; so tight between AUS and GBR to lead into the last leg – super close.
Then USA, NZL, JPN, DEN, ESP, FRA.
Coming into the finish, GBR take the lead.
Coming into the finish the Australians really smoke in from the right hand side… too close to call!
With the time limit expiring before the New Zealanders crossed the line, the results default to bottom mark results.
Race 1 Results as follows:
Race 2
Penalties to GBR and NZL who were early. Two OCS for NZL from two starts.
Around the top mark; ESP, JPN, DEN are away ahead of the fleet.
France get a penalty against GBR for proper course as well.
Bottom mark; Spain lead their home GP, then JPN, DEN, AUS, USA, NZL, GBR, FRA.
And all teams are off the foils.
Very slow third leg – Spain manage to hold onto their lead over Japan, DEN, AUS, NZL, USA, GBR, FRA. Course gets shortened to four legs.
SPAIN win race two at their home GP, then JPN and we wait for the time limit… Denmark finish in third, JUST USA, over NZL, GBR… not sure when the time ran out!
Race 3
Heading into the final race, now four crew members from six with the big wing!
The female crews have moved from the tactical role to the grind.
Denmark are super early coming back to the start line… So are Spain… But it’s a clear start.
Round the first mark it is Australia leading USA, Denmark, GBR, Spain, NZL, JPN, FRA.
Bottom mark: Australia, Denmark, USA, GBR, JPN, NZL, ESP, FRA.
Course shortened to four legs once again.
Japan get a penalty relative to NZL for not keeping clear.
Last mark of the course, and AUS maintain their lead over DEN, USA.
DEN gybe on top of AUS on the left hand side looking up wind to take the lead.
The US get wind from the right hand side, and manage to sneak into the lead over DEN and AUS.
Australia manage to get past DEN, however, the USA extend but it is a race against the time limit.
USA take the win in the third race by some margin. Now we wait.
Only the USA finished within the time limit, so the rest of the results go back to the previous mark, AUS, DEN, GBR, ESP, JPN, NZL, FRA.
